Questing.

I have climbed highest mountains, I have run through the fields
Only to be with you, Only to be with you
I have run, I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls, These city walls
Only to be with you, But I still haven't found what I'm looking for.

~ U2

Remember the old music clubs when you could order a dozen albums for a buck? I had just graduated from college in 1987, and U2’s album The Joshua Tree was exploding across America with two number-one singles (this one and "With or Without You”) when I decided to live large and make a $1 investment in my music collection. CD’s mind you! Oh yeah, I was cutting edge.

So of course The Joshua Tree landed in my first shipment from Columbia House. I was captivated by their sound and their soul, and this song in particular resonated in a way I couldn’t quite define. In fact, I struggled to reconcile the song’s obvious statement of faith with the haunting line, But I still haven't found what I'm looking for...

[Somehow I erased the rest of this post. One of my favorites of all time. I’m devastated.]
